part 3 – the children

When Joe speaks to his children it is with a ferocity you only see reserved for someone in a horror terror movie. Joe has two sides like a someone struggling with a terror inside them. He knows his children fear this greatly so he uses this when he yells and hits them. The looks of sadness knowing they can’t escape is what hurts the most. I have always tried to help them but it only seems to make him angrier. The angrier he is the more dangerous and horrible he is. The danger is always around the house and the children oh the children are walking with such care so they do not make him angry.

Joe’s rage is like a storm that bursts without warning. The blows hit hard, sharp, each one leaving more than just bruises. The pain lingers, but the sadness cuts deeper the hurt of knowing it will happen again.

The kids feel it, too. Every strike is a reminder of their helplessness. Their fear shows in their eyes, a sadness that never leaves, knowing they can’t escape the pain or the anger that drives it.

When he sees men, there’s this twisted stare, like he’s holding back something he can’t let out. It’s not just about control it’s fear, confusion. He can’t lash out and touch at other men, so he directs it at us instead, the ones closest to him, because we’re the only ones he can control.
